BRAIN HEMORRHAGE

An artery in the brain bursting and causing localized bleeding in the surrounding tissue of brain causes stroke and it is called as brain hemorrhages. In simple words, a brain hemorrhage is bleeding in or around the brain. Brain hemorrhages are also called cerebral hemorrhages, intracranial hemorrhages, or intracerebral hemorrhages.

Types of brain hemorrhages

The major reason for causing stroke is because of interruption in the flow of blood inside the brain. There are two types of stroke

  • Intracerebral hemorrhage - bleeding inside the brain
  • Subarachnoid hemorrhage - bleeding between the brain and the membranes which cover the brain.
  • Subdural hemorrhage - below the inner layer of the dura and above the brain
  • Epidural hemorrhage - bleeding between the skull and the brain

Causes of brain hemorrhage

  • Head injuries
  • Excessive use of drugs
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Abnormalities in the blood vessel
  • Bleeding disorders in blood
  • Liver disease
  • Tumor in the brain
  • A cerebral aneurysm, a weak area in an artery in the brain

  • Treatment For Brain Hemorrhage

    Surgical treatment

In this treatment surgery will be undertaken within first 48- 72 hours after the hemorrhage depending upon the emergency and condition of the person. A surgical procedure may be recommended to prevent or stop bleeding or reduce the pressure inside the skull.

    Aneurysm Treatment

This treatment is risky but highly effective and successful. Sometimes surgery isn’t possible and one option left is aneurysm treatment with proper monitoring and timely medication.

    Arteriovenous Malformation Treatment

This treatment is carried out by surgery, radiosurgery or embolization techniques. Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) have a significant risk of further bleeding. The decision to treat an AVM depends on several factors like patient age, AVM location and size, and abnormalities of the veins that drain the malformation and whether or not the AVM has previously bled.

    Decompressive Craniotomy

In this treatment, a part of the skull is removed which allows the swelling brain to[G6] expand. When a patient’s life appears to be threatened because of the pressure effects of a blood clot in the brain, the physician may consider a procedure to open the skull and/or remove the blood.

Brain hemorrhages often occur as a result of head trauma.so it is important to protect the head. This is especially true for children and young adults. It’s critical to protect children from head injuries because their brains are still developing and tissue isn’t fully formed, the brain continues to evolve until an individual is 20-25 years old.

Precautions To Help You Prevent Brain Injury

  • Wear a seatbelt.
  • Wear a helmet during sports and bike riding.
  • Secure rugs to prevent falls.
  • Avoid diving in water less than 12 feet deep.
